Square is best known for its card readers, and Square Appointments is the booking side of the same system. It is a sensible choice for a lot of small businesses, especially anyone already taking card payments on a Square reader. Its headline is hard to beat: a free plan, with no limit on staff.
So this is not a comparison about which one is cheaper for a diary. Square wins that. It is about what you end up with on the web, who builds it, and what it costs once you want your own domain. Every Square figure below was read from Square's own UK pricing pages on 25 October 2026.
The short version
Square Appointments is £0 for a single location, £29 a month per location on Plus and £69 on Premium. None of them take commission on bookings. You pay Square when you take a card: 1.75% in person on the free plan, 1.6% on the paid plans, and 1.4% + 25p online for UK cards.
Believe Websites is £49 a month flat, whatever the size of your team, and includes a bespoke website designed and built for you, for £0 upfront, on your own domain. We also take 0% of every booking. What we do not have yet is the payments side: card payments and text reminders are built but not switched on.
What Square's pricing page actually says
Paid plans are charged per location. Features marked Plus on Square's page are in Plus and Premium; features marked Premium are in Premium only. The pricing page does not say whether prices include VAT.

The free plan is genuinely usable: online booking, unlimited staff calendars, text and email reminders, card on file, prepayments and Book Now buttons for Instagram, Facebook and Google. Plus adds the things a busier business tends to want, such as text confirmations, a waitlist, cancellation fees and processing time for services like colour.
The website, and the domain
Every Square Appointments plan includes a Square Online booking website that you create and customise yourself. On Square Online's own plans page, the free plan gives you the website builder; connecting your own domain, removing Square branding and using custom fonts all come with Square Online Plus, at £20 a month billed annually, which also includes credit for a standard domain for the first year.
Put those together and the numbers get interesting. Square Appointments Plus at £29, plus Square Online Plus at £20, is £49 a month — exactly what we charge. The difference is who does the work. With Square you pick a theme, write the pages, add the photos and keep it up to date. With us, we design and build it, and when your prices or hours change you message us and we change it.

Subscriptions only, at prices read on 25 October 2026, for one location. Square's paid plans are per location. Square also charges for every card payment (1.75% or 1.6% in person); Believe Websites does not take card payments yet, so there is no equivalent fee to compare.

What the £49 pays for with us
- A bespoke website, designed around your business — your photos, services, prices, reviews and area — not a theme you fill in.
- Your own domain, something like www.yourbusiness.co.uk, bought and connected for you.
- Changes done for you. New prices, new hours, a new team member: message us. Unlimited small changes, fair use.
- Your booking system inside the site, for unlimited team members, with email confirmations and reminders.
- Analytics, a monthly report and an AI Search Readiness score, so you can see what is in place and how the site is doing.
- A new article every month about your town and your services, written to be read by search engines and AI assistants.
- 0% commission on every booking, from anyone.
The whole offer is on our home page. After the 12-month minimum term it carries on month to month, and the website can become yours.
Being found when people ask an AI
More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI overview for a recommendation and act on the answer. Those systems answer from what they can read on the open web: clear pages about what you do, where you are, what you charge, and real reviews. Square Online lists SEO tools in its website builder; what you get out of them depends on what you write.
Every site we build is set up with structured data, a page for each service, clear business details and a monthly article, and your dashboard shows an AI Search Readiness score so you can see what is there.
Where Square genuinely wins
- It can cost nothing. For a single location, Square Appointments is £0 a month with no staff limit. We are never free.
- Payments work today. Card on file, prepayments, Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android, Square's card readers, Clearpay and next-day transfers. Our card payments are built but not switched on yet.
- Text reminders work today. Square includes text and email reminders on every plan. Ours go by email; text reminders are built but not switched on.
- No long-term commitment. Square says no long-term commitments are required. We ask for a 12-month minimum term, because we build the site for nothing up front.
- More features for busy diaries. Waitlists, cancellation fees, processing time and class booking on Plus, and resource management for rooms and chairs on Premium.
Neither of us runs a consumer marketplace that sends you new clients browsing for a business. If that is what you want, it is the Fresha, Booksy and Treatwell model, which charge commission on those first bookings; we compared them in Believe Websites vs Fresha and Believe Websites vs Treatwell.
