The short answer
- A tutor choosing a booking platform is usually choosing between tutoring software that also handles invoicing, lesson notes and a student portal, and a simpler booking tool or website.
- On 4 November 2026 TutorBird's UK price was £13.95 a month plus £3.95 for each additional tutor or staff member, with all features included, SMS reminders at no extra cost and a free hosted website builder.
- Teachworks prices in US dollars by usage: Starter was $16.49 a month plus $0.35 per student lesson, Growth $47.99 plus $0.21, and Premium $187.99 plus $0.08, with unlimited students and teachers.
- SimplyBook.me's Free plan allowed 50 bookings a month for one provider, and paid plans ran from £10.90 to £45.80 a month billed annually, with SMS credits and a custom domain sold separately in US dollars.
- Setmore was free for up to 4 users, and Pro was $5 per user a month billed annually with SMS reminders.
- Calendly's UK prices were free, then £8 or £13 per seat a month billed yearly, or £10 or £17 billed monthly.
- Tutorful's site said it was not accepting new tutor applications on 4 November 2026.
- Believe Websites builds a bespoke tutoring website with booking inside it on your own domain for £0 upfront, then £49 a month flat with 0% commission, for any number of tutors.
- Believe Websites is not tutoring software: it has no lesson notes, invoicing or student portal, its text reminders and card payments are built but not switched on, it has no marketplace, and it has a 12-month minimum term.
Tutoring books differently from a haircut. Lessons tend to be weekly and ongoing, often booked by a parent rather than the student, sometimes online and sometimes in person, and frequently paid for in blocks or invoiced monthly. A tutoring business with several tutors also has to track who taught what, and pay them. So the first decision is not which app looks nicest, but whether you want tutoring software that runs the admin as well as the diary, or a booking tool and website with the admin done elsewhere.
This guide compares six options on what decides it for a tutor: what you pay on your own and with three tutors, text reminders, tutoring features, and whether you get a website of your own. Every figure was read from each company's own pricing page on 4 November 2026.
We make Believe Websites, one of the six below, and we are not tutoring software. We build websites with booking inside them. If you need lesson notes, invoicing or a student portal, you need one of the tutoring systems, and we say where we fit around one further down. Every source is listed at the bottom.

SimplyBook.me's plans are capped by bookings a month and providers: Free is 50 bookings and 1 provider, Basic 100 and 5, Standard 500 and 15, Premium 2,000 and 30. Extra bookings are $4 per 100. Its page puts monthly billing at £12.90 for Basic and £55 for Premium. Teachworks bills after each month for what you used, and counts a lesson with two students as two student lessons.

Figures read from each company's pricing page on 4 November 2026. In US dollars, the same business would pay Teachworks Starter $58.49 ($16.49 + 120 × $0.35) or Growth $73.19, and Setmore Pro $15 billed annually or $36 billed monthly. Setmore Free also covers three tutors, with email reminders only.
We are the most expensive line on that chart. The difference is what is included: every other price is the booking or tutoring system, and you build the website yourself, or you do without one. Ours includes designing and building the site, hosting it, the domain, and changing it whenever you ask.
On your own, the cheapest routes are free: Setmore Free, SimplyBook.me Free (up to 50 bookings a month) or Calendly Free. TutorBird is £13.95 a month for one tutor. Teachworks Starter for a tutor teaching 40 student lessons a month comes to $30.49.

Each option in a paragraph
TutorBird
Built for tutors, and on price it is the strongest option here. £13.95 a month in the UK, plus £3.95 per extra tutor or staff member, with student management, invoicing, payroll tracking, lesson notes, a student portal, SMS reminders and a website builder all included. It offers 30 days free without a card, a 90-day money-back guarantee, and no contract. The website is yours to build with its drag-and-drop editor; its pricing page does not say whether it can run on your own domain.
Teachworks
Tutoring and lesson-business software that charges a base fee plus a fee for every student lesson, so a quiet month costs less than a busy one. Unlimited students, teachers and user accounts on every plan, a 21-day free trial, no setup or cancellation fees, billed in US dollars after each month. It suits tutoring centres; for a solo tutor the per-lesson fee adds up.
Setmore
A general booking app, free for up to 4 users with email reminders, and $5 per user a month on Pro billed annually for text reminders. You get a branded Booking Page rather than a website. We compared it with ourselves in detail in Believe Websites vs Setmore.
SimplyBook.me
A booking app with a booking website included and a free plan for one tutor. Plans are capped by bookings and providers, texts are bought as credits, and your own domain on the booking site is a $119 add-on. Its page also offers full set-up by its team from $499.
Calendly
Scheduling links, best known for meetings. It works well for online lessons where the student just needs a time and a video link, and it can take payment through Stripe or PayPal from Standard. It has no tutoring records and no website.
Tutor marketplaces
Marketplaces bring you students who are browsing, at a price. On 4 November 2026 Tutorful's site said it was not accepting new tutor applications, so it was not an option for a tutor joining today. We could not read Superprof's UK site, which did not load in our browser, so we have left it out rather than guess at its terms. Believe Websites has no marketplace either: we do not send anyone browsing students.
Believe Websites
We design and build a bespoke website for your tutoring business, with booking inside it, on your own domain, for £0 upfront and £49 a month flat, however many tutors you have. We take 0% commission. When your subjects, prices or availability change, you message us and we change it. Every site gets email confirmations and reminders, analytics, a monthly report, an AI Search Readiness score and a new article each month about your town and subjects. The whole offer is on our home page.
If you already run TutorBird or Teachworks for the admin, you can keep it for that and use us for the website, so parents searching for a tutor in your town land on a proper site rather than a booking form.
Where we lose
- We are not tutoring software. No lesson notes, no invoicing, no payroll, no student or parent portal. TutorBird and Teachworks do all of that.
- Text reminders and card payments are built but not switched on. Today we send email confirmations and reminders only, and cannot take payment for a block of lessons. TutorBird includes SMS reminders and online payments now.
- We cost more. Every other option here is cheaper per month, and three of them have a free plan.
- There is a 12-month minimum term, then month to month. TutorBird, Teachworks and Setmore say you can cancel at any time.
- No marketplace. We do not bring you students who are browsing.
So which one should you pick?
- You run a tutoring business with invoices, several tutors and parents to keep informed: TutorBird or Teachworks.
- You teach online and just need people to pick a time: Calendly or Setmore, free to start.
- You want a free booking page and nothing else: Setmore Free or SimplyBook.me Free.
- You want parents searching in your town to find a proper website, built and kept up to date for you, with booking in it: Believe Websites, on its own or alongside your tutoring software.
Teach fitness as well as, or instead of, academic subjects? We priced the options for personal trainers the same way.

- How does Teachworks pricing work?

- Not at the time of writing. On 4 November 2026 Tutorful's become-a-tutor page said it was no longer accepting new tutor applications.
- Will a website help me get found as a tutor?
- A complete website gives search engines and AI assistants something clear to read about what you teach, where and for whom. Believe Websites sets up a page for each subject, structured data and a monthly article. No company can guarantee a Google ranking or that an AI assistant will recommend a tutor.
